DN100 Wafer Butterfly Valve — Soft Seat, Tongue & Groove Seat Design, Aluminum Lever

The DN100 (4 inch) wafer butterfly valve from Laux Valve features a soft seat with tongue and groove (T&G) seat retention design and a lightweight aluminum lever handle. The tongue and groove seat locking mechanism ensures positive seat retention under pressure and vacuum conditions, preventing seat movement, extrusion, or blowout — a significant reliability advantage over standard press-fit or bonded seats.

Ideal for water treatment, HVAC, irrigation, and general industrial applications requiring reliable bubble-tight shut-off at an economical price point.

Description

Key Features

  • Tongue and Groove Seat Design — The rubber seat features a precision-molded tongue that locks into a matching groove machined into the valve body. This mechanical interlock prevents the seat from shifting, rotating, or extruding under pressure differential, providing positive seat retention even in vacuum service.
  • Soft Seat (EPDM/NBR) — Fully molded soft rubber seat provides bubble-tight Class A shut-off per API 598. Available in EPDM (water) or NBR (oil) compounds.
  • Aluminum Lever Handle — Lightweight, corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy lever with ergonomic grip. 10-position locking plate provides 50° incremental disc positioning. Lever length optimized for comfortable manual operation.
  • Wafer Type Design — Compact, lightweight body installs between ASME B16.5 or EN 1092-2 flanges. Centering lugs ensure proper alignment during installation.
  • Ductile Iron Body — ASTM A536 Grade 65-45-12 ductile iron with electrostatic epoxy coating (min 80 microns) for corrosion protection.
  • Blowout-Proof Stem — One-piece stem with undercut shoulder design prevents stem ejection under pressure.
  • 100% Pressure Tested — Every valve hydrostatically tested at 1.5x rated pressure per API 598.

Everything you need to know about AWWA C504 Standrad Butterfly Valve

What does AWWA C504 cover?

AWWA C504 is the American Water Works Association standard for Rubber-Seated Butterfly Valves. It covers design, materials, pressure ratings, testing, and dimensional requirements for butterfly valves used in water supply and wastewater systems. Valves meeting this standard are suitable for potable water, raw water, and wastewater service.

What is the difference between Class 125 and Class 150?

Class 125 (125 PSI) is a lower pressure rating primarily used in North American waterworks with cast iron flanged fittings. Class 150 (285 PSI) is a higher rating used with ductile iron or steel flanges. Class 125 valves use flat face flanges (ASME B16.1) while Class 150 use raised face flanges (ASME B16.5).

What is a vulcanized seat and why is it important?

A vulcanized seat is a rubber lining that is chemically and mechanically bonded to the valve body during the molding process. Unlike loose or cartridge seats, a vulcanized seat cannot shift, extrude, or blow out under pressure. This provides maintenance-free operation and reliable bubble-tight shut-off for the life of the seat — typically 15-20 years in water service.

Can this valve be used for dead-end service?

Yes. The double flange design supports full dead-end service at the rated pressure. The valve can be installed at the end of a pipeline with a blind flange and maintain bubble-tight shut-off. This is a key requirement for isolation valves in water distribution systems.

What certifications are available for potable water service?

This valve can be supplied with NSF/ANSI 61 certification for drinking water system components in the US and Canada, and WRAS approval for potable water contact in the UK. UL/FM listings are available for fire protection applications upon request.
